Notable Propellers by Stone Manganese Marine Ltd

Heavy Weight

One of a series propellers supplied to Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries. These are some of the heaviest propellers in the world. This propeller, which is fitted to MV‘P&O NEDLLOYD SOUTHAMPTON’, was designed to absorb 65.9 MW (89,599 SHP), it has a diameter of 8950 mm and weighs 93.5 tonnes.

Large Diameter

One of 5 propellers supplied as retrofits to a class of 340,000 dwt ULCC’s, with a diameter of 11000 mm. This propeller weighs 69.15 tonnes in NIKALIUM alloy and achieved fuel savings of 12%.

Container Ship

One of a long series of 86 tonne MERIDIAN propellers designed and manufactured for A.P Moller’s generation of K & S class container ships. These 9000 mm diameter propellers are driven by marine diesel engines each developing 55 MW (74,779 SHP).

Warship

These five-bladed propellers, which were designed by DERA, Haslar, for the Invincible Class Aircraft Carriers, replaced the original propellers also manufactured by SMM.

Complexity

It is essential that submarine propellers have a low noise signature. This requires sophisticated design technology, high damping alloys and extreme accuracy during manufacture of the complex blade shapes.

Fleet Oiler

One of a pair of propellers supplied to the Ministry of Defence for the twin screw Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment Tankers ‘FORT GEORGE’ and ‘FORT VICTORIA’. These propellers, which have a very distinctive geometry, were designed by DERA, Haslar.

Survey Ship

This 4000mm stainless steel built-up propeller of MERIDIAN design was supplied to Swan Hunter Shipbuilders for the Royal Research Ship ‘JAMES CLARK ROSS’. The propeller was specially designed for navigation in ice to enable the ship to carry out oceanographic research in the Antarctic.
